Register of Deeds
The office of the Register of Deeds was established in Wisconsin in 1836. The 1848 Wisconsin Constitution established the Register of Deeds as a permanent element of the county-level governmental structure. Our office is responsible for the accurate and timely recording/filing and indexing of all real estate documents pertaining to property within Ashland County. The recording of real estate documents serves a two-fold purpose; first, to provide constructive notice to the public of a transaction; and second, to perpetuate the history of title to a particular parcel of land. We must properly maintain and provide accessibility to these records.
