Prior to joining the CCS team, I have worked as an outpatient behavioral health therapist, inpatient psychiatric social worker, ER social worker, intensive outpatient mental health provider, and aging/disability specialist. I have a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

In my spare time, I enjoy movies, baseball, home improvement projects, going on adventures with family, and watching the sun rise with my two cats.

Andrea

Andrea Yrjanainen

Administrative Assistant for Regional CCS Referrals

Community Service Programs

Greetings! I am another shared staff member for the Ashland and Bayfield County CCS Programs. My role is to receive the referrals, contact the client and make sure all information like records and the confirmation of need form are gathered for admission in the program. I have been with the program since 2022. Prior to coming to the program I held roles in the medical setting working with insurance, registration and training.

In my off time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two Labradors, gardening, hunting, adventuring the north woods on my side by side, creating specialty gift baskets and holiday decorations. I love winter, so you’ll find me snowmobiling or snowshoeing on the weekends and watching my godson and his wife race in the Amsoil Championship Snocross Series.

Random fact about me: I grew up the daughter of a logger, so I learned how to run heavy equipment and chainsaws growing up and I still can! I am definitely at home in the woods!

One thing I really enjoy about my position with Bayfield County is everyday is never the same and it provides you with professional challenges on a regular basis.

I’m spending my free time with my fiancé and our two boys, ages 15 and 4, which includes doing all the activities that comes with both of them.

JW

J.W. Sutton, BA, SAC-IT

Ashland CCS Service Facilitator / Substance Abuse Professional

Community Service Programs

J.W. has a very cool mustache, which is the only aspect of his appearance you will remember, due to a magical disguise spell gone awry.  His job duties generally entail generating confused looks from his coworkers and helping people find missing socks.  In his free time, he wanders the moors, lamenting his lost steed, Diogenes Antipodes.  His hobbies include making tapestries of platypus memes, critiquing academic paper preprints on quantum physics, and astral travel to the chaosphere.

Administrative Assistant for Regional CCS Billing

Community Service Programs

Pleased to meet you! I am a “shared staff member” for Ashland and Bayfield County. I work mostly with the CCS programs as a MA biller, but I also work for both counties as an Echo Database Administrator. As an Administrative Professional for Fiscal, I verify and submit invoices for payment for our vendors. I process and submit billing files to forward health. As an Echo Database Administrator, I grant access to new people for our Echo system, process remits for both counties, and help build new programs in our Echo system for our organization. I also, help people with any issues that may come up while working in the Echo system. I have worked in the CCS programs since 2016. Before that, I worked in insurance for 5 years. Most of my career has been working with people or helping people. That’s who I am, I love people, and if there is anything I can do to help, I will, because it makes my heart happy.

In my off time, I enjoy watching my chickens and turkeys play in our yard. I like to garden (total plant nerd here) and be outdoors in the woods or by water. I like to go camping with my three boys and husband whenever we get a chance. We also like to travel. I love going to new places and see all the different cultures, people, and of course plants…LOL Fun fact about me: I love working on cars. I helped my dad put an engine in his truck when I was 5 years old and have been totally hooked since.

Vanessa

Vanessa Sowl, BSW, LSW, SAC-IT

Bayfield CCS Service Facilitator / Substance Abuse Professional

I provide service facilitation and substance use counseling and assessment for our CCS participants. My role as service facilitator is to work with the participant to name their mental health goals and to identify the steps and services they’ll utilize to fulfill these dreams. My favorite mental health concept is “many pathways” which means that everyone is different and there is no prescribed way to get to your mental wellbeing. There are a lot of mental health tools, modalities, and ideas out there, and your pathway to a healthy you is yours to find! I love working in CCS because I think we have a lot of freedom to explore what will help participants be and do and feel their best self.
